“I’ve always been fascinated by the interplay of the musical aspects of the moving image, and the visual aspects of music.”
Born in Los Angeles to Chinese-Canadian and German parents, I was brought up in Vancouver, Canada and spent my childhood traversing these two cities. My passion for film probably began at Vancouver’s historic Stanley Theater where I saw my first movie, Disney’s Fantasia, which sparked my early interest in film and music.
I began piano studies and filmmaking at an early age and with my friends would make backyard epics which I “scored” with tracks from my favorite composer such as Jerry Goldsmith, Vangelis, Bernard Herrmann, etc.
After winning several student film festival awards in high school, I went on to study film, music composition, and art history at Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts. There, immersed in a culture of interdisciplinary creativity, I honed my skills, supplemented with concentrations in English literature and art history.
Since moving back to Los Angeles, I have composed music for a diverse range of talented storytellers, from Hollywood blockbusters to cutting edge independent projects. Music, for me, is storytelling.
Along with my musical pursuits, I also explore the vibrant art and cultural landscapes of Los Angeles as a multi-media journalist.
Based in downtown Los Angeles, where I live with Fritz the Dog (named after Fritz Lang), when I’m not immersed in creative endeavors you can find me hunting for vinyl records, biking through the city’s sprawling landscapes, or on the search for the perfect coffee and croissant.
